  • Are there any side effects to wearing a hair system?
There are no documented side effects to wearing systems. However, new wearers may find them a little itchy and possibly irritating to begin with. This is a common experience and typically resolves itself within a few days as you become accustomed to the system. It should be noted that not all skin types and or lifestyles are suitable for glue adhesion. If you are a frequent gym goer, exerciser, heavy sweater, or have oily skin then we recommend using the tape method of adhesion, which is more resilient under conditions that involve sweat and oil. Following the maintenance and cleanliness routine is imperative for the health of you scalp. Failure to adhere to these practices can lead to scalp infections, possibly requiring medical attention and necessitating the removal of you hair system until the infection clears up. Therefore, incorporating a dedicated maintenance routine will not only keep your system looking great but also ensure your scalp remains in optimal condition.
  • Can I style my hair system with gel or other products?
Yes, you can use styling products, such as pomade or wax. It's a good idea to avoid products which are sticky, don't brush out easily or coat the hair, such as hairspray. Also, avoid products which contain a high level of alcohol, as, over time, this may cause drying of the hair.
  • How long will my hair system last?
As our hair systems are made using 100% human Remy hair, (grey hair is synthetic as standard, unless requested otherwise), and hand woven in their base, the longevity of each system may vary. However, how well they are cared for at home is certainly a major factor in extending their lifespan. You will be supplied with full aftercare instructions to prevent sheading of the hair and to give you the best chance of extended use. On average, clients systems have lasted 4 - 8 months, but with good maintenance routine some clients are able to extended this lifespan.
  • Can I go to the gym straight after having a hair system fitted?
To ensure the adhesive sets securely, it is advisable to wait 24 - 48 hours after installation before attending the gym or engaging in any form of exercise. Additionally, by avoiding showering in hot water for 24 hours post fitting helps to form a secure bond.
  • Can I get my hair system wet, and what about swimming?
Hair systems should be washed a maximum of once a week, using a sulphate free shampoo and conditioner, and a soft, light motion to cleanse without scrubbing, then pat the hair system dry gently with a towel. If you're swimming and plan to keep your hair dry in either a pool or the sea, no special precautions are necessary. However, if you intend to submerge your head and hair in water, it's advisable to soak your hair with clean water first. Either wet your hair under the shower at the pool or with bottled water at the beach. Pre-soaking helps prevent chlorine or salt water being absorbed into the hair, which can cause damage or dryness. After bathing, rinse the hair with clean, fresh water immediately and wash with shampoo and conditioner at the earliest opportunity. The system may be air-dried if you are on the go. However, it is crucial that you never go to bed with the system wet. This can weaken the hair and cause tangling. If using a hairdryer, never use the hot setting, only cool or warm, and direct the air down the hair shaft, rather than upwards.
  • What’s the best way to care for my hair system?
As our systems are made of 100% human Remy hair (grey hair is synthetic as standard, unless requested otherwise), and are not being fed the natural oils from your skin, it is important to moisturise your hair system every day by spraying with a moisture spray or applying Argan oil. Hair systems should be washed a maximum of once a week, using a sulphate free shampoo and conditioner, and a soft, light motion to cleanse without scrubbing, then pat the hair system dry gently with a towel. The system may be air-dried if you are on the go. However, it is crucial that you never go to bed with the system wet. This can weaken the hair and cause tangling. When drying with a hairdryer, first spray the hair with leave in conditioner, then, set your dryer to a warm or cold setting, never hot, holding the dryer in a downward position, so that the hair cuticles are smoothed. A Tangle teaser hairbrush should be used daily to remove and prevent any knotting. Spray the system daily with a leave-in conditioner to prevent the hair drying out. It is advised to replace your cotton pillowcase with a silk one to help prevent sheading. On average, if your system is attached using adhesive, it will need to be removed, either at the salon, or at home, cleaned and replaced every 4 - 5 weeks. If you lead an active lifestyle, have been in very hot weather, have excessive sweating or an oily scalp, this may need to be carried out more frequently. If tapes are used to attach the system, it is recommended that removal and replacement is carried out every 1 - 2 weeks. If you lead an active lifestyle, have been in very hot weather, have excessive sweating or and oily scalp, this may need to be carried out more frequently. Regular maintenance is encouraged to keep your scalp and system in optimum condition and to prevent infection. A full maintenance service is offered in the salon, but some clients prefer to look after their systems themselves. Again, advice will be offered on this if required.
  • What is the wear time of a system before maintenance is required?
This depends on the chosen attachment method and individual factors such a the wearer's lifestyle and skin type. On average, the glue adhesive method can generally be expected to last 3 - 5 weeks before requiring reapplication, whilst the tape adhesion approximately 1 - 2 weeks of wear before reapplying. Failure to clean and reapply the system regularly may cause damage to the system and may risk infection to the scalp.
  • How do I clean the system if I'm maintaining it myself?
Before removing your system, you may find it helpful to mark the hairline by sticking a small piece of tape on the forehead where the front of the system meets your forehead, then, when reattaching, you will be able to see where your hairline should be. We recommend using C22 solvent remover to detach the system from your scalp. To remove the adhesive or tape from the base we recommend using cotton wool, and with the aid of C22 gently wipe off the excess. Once all the sticky has been removed, wash the system gently in warm/tepid water using a sulphate-free shampoo, followed by conditioner. Pat dry with a soft towel. Do not rub the system or hair. Spray the system with leave-in conditioner then, using a Tangle Teaser hairbrush, gently remove any tangles, starting at the ends and working your way to the root if there are any knots. Dry thoroughly with a hairdryer on a cool or warm setting (never hot), before reattaching it.
  • How do I tape the system?
Please read section 'How do I clean my hair system if maintaining it myself'?' before retaping. Before removing your system, you may find it helpful to mark the hairline by sticking a small piece of tape on the forehead where the front of the system meets your forehead, then, when reattaching, you will be able to see where your hairline should be. Ensure the system is completely dry before attempting to apply tapes. Apply Walker Tape all around the perimeter of the system, including taping over any lace fronts, and overlapping the previous piece of tape. This will aid with the removal. Some wearers prefer to apply a couple of tapes in the centre, but this shouldn't be necessary.
  • Can I colour my hair system?
Unfortunately, due to hair systems being processed prior to manufacture, they tend to lighten in UV lighting, ie, the sun. They can be darkened down to their original colour safely. If you intend to fit/cut your own system, we would recommend retaining some of the discarded hair and testing the colour result on this prior to colouring the system as hair dye can take extremely quickly to processed hair. If you have grey content in your system, unless requested otherwise when ordered, this will be synthetic, so you can rest assured it will not change colour with hair dye. However, if you prefer a lighter system or highlights, we highly recommend specifying this preference at point of order. Attempting to lighten or bleach the system yourself can lead to costly mistakes! If you opt to attend the salon, this service can be carried out at your maintenance appointment. Please note: Using a SPF spray on your system daily and, if in direct sunlight, wearing a cap, will help towards prolonging the colour.
  • What if my natural hair is gray—can I still color it?
Your Hairmazing hair system can be colour matched perfectly with your percentage of grey for a completely natural blend with your own hair. Colouring of your own hair is also an option if you would prefer, the system can then be matched to your coloured hair.
  • Can I perm my system?
It is highly recommended that you select this option during the ordering process so that it can be carried out safely and professionally during the manufacturing stage at a small extra charge. Attempting to perm the hair system at home could lead to unsatisfactory results and potentially damage the hair.
  • Your salon is a long way from my home, do you offer a postal service?
Yes, we do! If you're too far away from us to have your system expertly fitted, you can purchase from our online shop and have your system posted direct to you. You can then either instal it yourself or find a local salon who can provide this service.
